چکیده

ABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate the effects of partial replacement (750g/kg) Tifton hay by two cactus cladodes (Nopalea or Opuntia) on metabolic profile lambs. Thirty-six uncastrated male Santa Inês lambs (22.0 ± 2.9kg initial body weight) were distributed in a completely randomized design, with three treatments and 12 repetitions. The animals fed control diet (Tifton as exclusive roughage), Miúda cladodes-based Orelha de Elefante Mexicana (O.E.M.) diet. Blood samples collected one day before (baseline) 45 days after introduction tested diets. caused an increase (P=0.055) serum activity gamma-glutamyl transferase enzyme (53.66U/L) blood content glucose fructosamine. O.E.M. lower (P=0.038) cholesterol (41.33mg/dL). Regardless variety, there was decrease (P=0.001) indirect bilirubin, urea, sodium, magnesium concentration. lamb feeding increases activity, indicating liver and/or kidney changes, but does not cause relevant damage energy, protein, mineral metabolism.

Digestibility, microbial protein synthesis, rumen and blood parameters in sheep fed diets containing hydroponic barley fodder

This experiment was conducted to determine the possibility of replacing part of the barley grain by hydroponic barley fodder (HBF), and evaluating its effect on digestibility, rumen parameters, microbial protein synthesis and blood parameters in sheep. Four male Kermani sheep, 18-month-old (34.7 ± 1 kg live weight) were randomly assigned to a change over 4 × 4 design and fed the experimental di...

Investigating the Effect of wet Cupping on some Biochemical parameters of lambs’ Blood

Introduction: Wet cupping is considered as a treatment procedure in traditional Iranian medicine, which is performed by creating suction and bleeding on special areas of the body. Materials: To examine the effect of wet cupping on the biochemical parameters of lambs’ blood, two experiments were conducted. Ten male Mehraban lambs weighing 23.4±3.24 Kg were randomly assigned to two groups: contr...

Effect of Feed Additives in Growing Lambs Fed Diets Containing Wet Brewers Grains

The study was conducted to evaluate and compare the effects of feed additives on ruminal fermentation, nutrient digestibility and performance of lambs fed diets containing 60% wet brewers grains (WBG). In Experiment 1, two simultaneous trials were conducted. Fifty intact (20.2±0.8 kg BW) lambs were used in a feedlot trial and 10 (rumen cannulated; 32±1 kg BW) in a digestion trial. The pH, volat...

Fatty Acid Profile of Meat from Lambs Fed on Diets Containing Mulberry Hay

The aim of this trial was to evaluate fatty acid profile of meat from lambs fed on diets containing 0, 12.5 and 25.0% mulberry hay as a substitute for the concentrate. Twenty-four feedlot Ile de France lambs (average weight of 15kg and average age of 60 days) were randomized to receive the different diets and slaughtered at 32kg body weight. Increases were observed in the concentrations of the ...

Ingestive Behavior and Nitrogen Balance of Confined Santa Ines Lambs Fed Diets Containing Soybean Hulls

The objective of this study was to assess the effect of substituting corn with soybean hulls on the ingestive behavior and nitrogen balance of Santa Ines lambs. A total of 25 lambs with an initial body weight of 20±2 kg at approximately six months of age, sheltered individually in stalls (1.10 m×1.0 m), considering an entirely casual experimental delineation. Soybean hulls were substituted for ...
